April is National Heartworm Awareness Month

MYTH: Heartworm disease is only found in warm climates.
FACT: Cases have been reported in all 50 states.

MYTH: My pet doesn’t need annual heartworm testing.
FACT: Heartworm medications are effective, but pets can still become infected by missing a dose or giving it late. Annual testing is crucial for all pets.

MYTH: Prevention is expensive.
FACT: Treatment can cost 10-15x more than prevention. There are plenty of affordable options to explore!

MYTH: Indoor pets are not at risk.
FACT: Mosquitoes can fly through doors, windows, attic soffits, and torn screens. One bite is all it takes.

MYTH: Heartworm disease isn’t serious.
FACT: It can be fatal if left untreated. Year-round prevention saves lives!
